Mac & Gayle Shann took over Cantaur Park and Lamont Stud in 2000, when they moved to the property. Cantaur Park is a 29,000 acre property 100kms North of Moranbah and 160kms North East of Clermont in Central Queensland. Lamont Stud, was named after Gayle’s grandfather Monty Atkinson who was the founder of the Droughtmaster breed. They also run a commercial herd of Droughtmasters, with a total number of females around 900 to 1000 (stud and commercial). Lamont Stud sell anywhere from 40 to 60 bulls at the annual Monty Atkinson Genetics Sale (MAGS) in Charters Towers every November in conjunction with other family members.
Mac & Gayle Shann have invested heavily in Droughtmaster sires over the past decade as well as purchased a selection of top quality Charolais bulls and are used over Droughtmaster breeders. With a strong emphasis on temperament, fertility, confirmation, bone and weight-for-age, Mac & Gayle strive to achieve excellence in their herd by strategic selection of sires and rigorous culling.
Below is a selection of sale bulls Lamont Stud have sold in recent years. You can also view our Sires and Females via these links or the main menu.
Mac & Gayle put a large emphasis on traits such as structural soundness, sheath, bone, muscle, testicular size, fertility, temperament, weight for age and at the end of it all ‘eye appeal’. With their strong belief in constitution, the bulls must also be good doers.
