Lamont Stud
Mac & Gayle Shann took over Cantaur Park and Lamont Stud in 2000, when they moved to the property. Cantaur Park is a 29,000 acre property with 12kms of frontage to the Suttor River. They are 100kms North of Moranbah and 160kms North East of Clermont in Central Queensland.
They run Lamont Stud, named after Gayle's grandfather Monty Atkinson who was the founder of the Droughtmaster breed. They also run a commercial herd of Droughtmasters, consisting of approximately 900 to 1000 head of breeders. They sell anywhere from 25 to 40 bulls at the annual Monty Atkinson Genetics Sale (MAGS) in Charters Towers every November in conjunction with other family members.
Mac & Gayle Shann have also purchased a selection of Charolais bulls from Moongool and Gogbongo Studs and are used in several paddocks over Droughtmaster breeders, with all the progeny being terminal.
With strong emphasis on temperament, fertility, confirmation, bone and weight for age, Mac & Gayle strive to achieve excellence in their herd by strategic selection of sires and rigorous culling.
